So we have all been into those stores that look amazing; even if the product sucks, the way it is displayed will actually sell the product. I have seen this happen so many times. I would have something displayed in the store and notice that no one was interested in the product. I would like move the display and change the look around and it would sell out in a week. It is all in the presentation.
Here are some helpful tips that I have discovered through many years of merchandising products:
- More in never better. Keep things clean and simple. You don’t want the customer to be afraid to touch and feel the merchandise.
- Make miny stores. Is always looks so nice when the whole store is grouped into smaller stores, having like product alike together. Creating little spaces that makes it feel like you are actually in a child’s room or sitting at a dinner table with friends.
- Have backstock. Don’t put everything out unless you didn’t buy enough. Make the display look good and tell customers you have one in the back so they don’t have to take the display. They also feel better because they aren’t getting the one everyone touched.
- Buy furniture. Displaying on hutches and tables allows you to bring the product to life. You can also put a price tag on your displays which can also help bring in some money.
- Don’t forget you have a ceiling. Having product from the ceiling allows you to merchandise more product. Use all the space you have. Hanging ornaments and other fixtures will also help sell the product.
- Heighth. Heighth gives tables and hutches more dimension and gives the product a fuller look.
- Be creative. Merchandising is a skill. Have fun with things. Display things in different ways and see how your customers respond.
Until working in a casino environment, I never realized how important it is to award your VIPs. Casinos have different colors of VIP cards depending on what “level of play” the member has. I thought that the same principle should be applied to shoppers. I created a database where I listed the amount of money customers spent and based upon this number, I was able to determine “their level of pay”. I feel that stores have taken their VIPs for granted but these VIPs are especially important during an economic down time. Here are simple ways to thank your VIPs without breaking the bank:
Everybody loves a sale… except the store owner. My retail team and I found a way to still please the sales rack shopper while not taking a huge hit on the books.
1. The signature fabric showing the “C” pattern will be crooked. The “C’ should line up horizontally and vertically.
I never really cared about what the fashion magazines were saying I should be wearing or whether my top was “so last season”. I might actually say that I still don’t care about it personally, but my job requires me to stay on top of what the fashion industry is saying. I have every shopping girls dream job. I am paid to go shopping for a living and I don’t have to spend one dime of my own money. If I do want to spend my own money, I get a super good deal on products that most women will never get.
